Hamilton has a fantastic and scenic walking and cycle network
Hamilton has some great places to walk, jog, and ride your bike, including along the picturesque Waikato River, and around Hamilton's extensive shared cycle/walkway that branches off around the city's suburbs.

Hamilton's river path stretches all the way from Hamilton Gardens in the South to Ngaruawahia in the North - a distance of 23km. It forms a section of New Zealand's famous Te Araroa Trailthat stretches from Cape Reinga to Cape Reinga.
The walkway can be entered and exited from a lot of locations, including at the Boundary Road Bridge, just along from Boundary Court Motor Inn.
Lake Rotoroa is at the centre of Hamilton Lake Domain - one of Hamilton's premiere parks. Lake Rotoroa was created about 20,000 years ago when the path of the Waikato River changed direction to flow out of Port Waikato instead of Thames.
The popular walkway around the lake is about 3.8km long. There's a cafe and children's playground there, and toilets located at the main parking areas on either side of the lake.
Taitua Arboretum is located at the end of Howden Road on the outskirts of Hamilton. The tranquil setting consists of a collection of mature trees, lakes, and woodland gardens covering an area of 20 acres.
There are benches, tables, and shelters, making this a great place to have a picnic. Toilets are located at the carpark, as is a tap and drinking fountain providing safe non-chloronated water that is maintained by Hamlton City Council.
Hamilton Mountain Bike Track is located at Pukete Farm Park in Northern Hamilton, and is maintained by Hamilton Mountain Bike Club.
The single-track trail is nearly 11km long and largely flat with a variety of terrain and riding surfaces including dirt, sand, clay, grass, and gravel. The track has a lot of tight twists and turns, with a table top and small jumps that can be avoided. It can be ridden year-round by beginners and more advanced riders.
