Hamilton's local beach
Just a 40-minute drive from Hamilton is Raglan - a small town known for its surf and water-based activities.
Raglan is popular with swimmers, surfers, paddleborders, jetskiers; for fishing, boating, and for simply relaxing.
Close to town are nice walking paths along the waterfront, and over a footbridge is a children's playground. This is also a popular swimming spot in summer for parents with younger children and those desiring a swim in calmer water. The harbour is also popular with paddleborders.
Ngarunui Beach is Raglan's most popular surf beach for swimming, with surf patrols in place over summer months. There are toilets and changing rooms located at the beach and the carpark, and beach access is down a steep hill. For those interested in learning to surf, a surf school is located here during summer months. There are rock pools located at the Southern end of the beach.
Manu Bay is where you'll find the world-famous surfing spot famous for having the longest, most accessible, and consistent left-hand break in the world. It's a popular location for surfers and surfing competitions. Just a little further on from Manu Bay is Whale Bay - a place favoured by surfers after a more challenging break.
